Bankstown, which was established in 1797 by Governor Hunter in honour of Sir Joseph Banks, is today one of the largest Local Government Areas in New South Wales, with approximately 180,000 residents speaking more than 60 different languages.

Bankstown City Council is one of the largest of the 177 councils in NSW. Overseeing a city that is 76.82 square kilometres in size and home to approximately 170,000 people, we provide over 100 services and $877 million worth of community assets.
